Let it Shimmer Technique Blog Hop

Welcome to our Technique Blog Hop!  This month we are highlighting Shimmer Brushes! Supply List:  Mix-Ins Paper Packet, Stitched Together Paper Packet + Sticker Sheet (stickers), Aurora Paper Packet (zip strips), Toffee Shimmer Brush, Evergreen Shimmer Brush, Clear Shimmer Brush, White Alphabet Foam Stickers, Wooden Arrows, 3-D Foam Tape, Stitched Together Picture My Life Cards, Bitty Sparkles, and Liquid Glass.

This was a fun layout, using some of my most favorite photos. Plus, I also love all things glittery and shiny so Shimmer Brushes are right up my alley! I used the Clear Shimmer Brush on the stickers and the Toffee Shimmer Brush on the wooden arrows. I attempted to use the Evergreen Shimmer Brush on the White Alphabet Foam Stickers and here’s how that turned out…
First, I wasn’t sure that it was going to work at all because the foam didn’t seem to be taking the color and looked like this:

Then, as I added more of the shimmer brush it seemed to rest on the letter and as it dried it looked like it was soaking in. See the difference here:

After leaving it overnight (more on this in the story below), it didn’t seem to fully dry so I added a layer of Liquid Glass over the top to seal it. Sometimes Liquid Glass can change the color of inks and as I was adding it (letters already on the layout) they seemed to change to a bluish color but when I came back later in the day after it had all dried, they were a dark green, which I was very happy with for this layout.

Funny story on how I found out that the letters didn’t fully dry… I told my 9-year-old today that sometimes there are mysteries in life and you are given clues to figure it out. Today, I wondered why the letter N was a lighter shade than the rest of the letters. I thought maybe a little girl was at my desk and touched it but she would have green on her fingers…can I see your hands? Hmm, there’s ink on your hands…that’s a clue! Then I said I noticed a paper on my desk with the letter N on it and it looked like someone ‘stamped’ with it….
Sorry mom….
Mystery solved! 😉
