CTMH Technique Blog Hop – Masking

Welcome to our Technique Blog Hop! This month there are 12 of us highlighting the Masking Technique as shown on page 15 in the 2011 Autumn/Winter Idea Book! Masking is when you use a piece of scrap paper to cover an image (or part of an image) so you can stamp around the original image. Click here to watch a video that explains and shows masking in full detail.

This blog hop is a circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork incorporating this technique. If you are coming from Bethany’s Blog, you are on the right track!

Supplies used are all Close to My Heart unless otherwise noted: Cricut Art Philosophy Collection, Lagoon ink, Sunkiss Yellow ink, Blush ink, rubber brayer, Baby Pink reinker, Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint, Ribbon Rounds – Blush Collection, White Daisy Cardstock, DCWV Alphabet Stickers, Studio18 Rhinestone Stickers, and Kaisercraft Rhinestones. Layout is loosely based on a March 2008 Page Map sketch.

I used the Cricut to cut an image for my masking. I used a brayer to apply ink over the mask to create my background. Then, I misted with a spray pen filled with water, Baby Pink reinker, and Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint to add to my final background. The accent flowers are scraps from the mask I used and they are inked with Sunkiss Yellow, Blush, and Lagoon.

Love Layout

This is my layout for the October Quote Challenge at Scrap Our Stash. I used a quote from a DCWV Quote Stack. I cut it into strips to add more detail. Because it was vellum, I used brads to attach it to my background. They match the Decorative Brad in the top right corner. For the LOVE title, I used the Oxford Color-Ready Alphabet stickers. I inked them in my first color and then stamped them with the flourish pattern, creating beautiful, original letters for my layout. Near the bottom of my page you will see a stamped border. To add more detail, I outlined some of the hearts with Liquid Glass, covered with Prisma Glitter, and let dry. I just love Prisma Glitter because it works over an color and it is so sparkly!

Corn Maze Layout

Supplies used: Close to My Heart Mischief Level 2 Paper Pack, Stampin Up punch, ProvoCraft Rob & Bob Studio coaster card, Close to My Heart You & Me stamp set, Close to My Heart Barn Red and Black ink, Close to My Heart buttons, Close to My Heart Waxy Flax, and foam tape.

This layout was inspired by Tammy’s layout from this months Scrap Our Stash Pagerize Challenge. I really used my stash with this one. The striped background paper is actually two pieces of scraps that I put together (using the stripes as my guide) and if you were to take off the photo mat you’d see the hole in the middle. I really liked this paper though and was determined to use it. And you’d never know! I took Tammy’s layout and turned it. Her border punch reminded me of one I had (that I’ve never used until now!). The orange coaster was too bright but it was perfect after I inked it up with some Barn Red. I changed the photo in the circle to journaling and mimicked her pieced title.

CTMH Spotlight Blog Hop featuring Color-Ready Kraft Borders

This month’s Spotlight Blog Hop is using the Kraft Color-Ready Borders by Close to My Heart. There are so many things you can do with these borders. You can ink them different colors, use them in different lengths, layer them, and use them in combination with other embellishments like sparkles, pearls, and ribbon.

Hey sis, you were right – the Old World Alphabet is awesome! It’s one that I didn’t care for from the look but after using it I am in love! For my layout, I used Cranberry and New England Ivy inks and a sponge to color the Color-Ready Kraft Borders. I layered them and added pearls to accent.

CTMH October Product Spotlight Blog Hop

This month for our CTMH Product Spotlight Blog Hop we have opted to give you a variety of ideas that you can use that are perfect for the Holiday season.

Products used are all CTMH: Dimensional Elements – Ornaments, Cranberry Ink, New England Ivy Ink, Vanilla Cream Ink, Finishing Files, New England Ivy Marker, Liquid Glass, Mistletoe Level 2 Assortment, Opaques – Pearl, Sparkles – Blue & Green Assortment, Sparkles – Red, Pink, & Purple Assortment, Ribbon Rounds – Holiday Collection, Colonial White Grosgrain Ribbon, Ribbon Rounds – Buttercup Collection, Peace on Earth stamp set, and Festive Thoughts stamp set.

These ornaments were a lot of fun to decorate. You can keep them together as a set or divide them up, keep them for yourself or give them as gifts. You can use them as decorations, not just ornaments and they can be used to embellish cards or layouts too! I added sentiments to the center of some of mine but you could also put a picture in the middle. I like to use Liquid Glass as my adhesive when working with Dimensional Elements (chipboard). It also works well to add a bit to ribbon ends to prevent fraying.

September 2010 CTMH Spotlight Blog Hop featuring Dimensional Elements

Welcome to the September 2010 Close to My Heart Spotlight Blog Hop. For this month’s blog hop we are featuring Dimensional Elements (DE), also known as chipboard. What I like about the Close to My Heart DE is that they are white which makes them so easy to color with ink and keep the true color!

Supplies used are all CTMH: Twitterpated Level 2 Paper Packet, Twitterpated Level 2 My Stickease Assortment, Chocolate Cardstock, DE Simple Alphabets (lowercase), Chocolate Ink, Journaling Jots stamp set, and Designer Ribbon Rounds Ricrac Collection.

Layout Challenge #71 of 210.

This was a quick and easy layout. That is a great advantage to using the My Stickease. They really dress up a layout without a lot of time and effort. I sponged Chocolate Ink on my DE letters to add the color. One trick I have learned is: when using a sponge or foam tool to add ink color to your DE – twist or rub! It works so much better than dabbing the ink, which takes forever. You will be amazed at how much quicker the color appears!

Many of the Dimensional Elements are on the retired list so if there are any of these listed below that you want I would recommend ordering them asap because they are only available while supplies last:

Caboodle Workshop

Welcome back to my blog in case you tried within the last day and were unable to bring it up. It has been technically difficulties beyond my control and I am hoping things are back to normal. Here is what I have had waiting for you:

Products used are all CTMH: Caboodle Workshop on the Go Basic Kit (includes Caboodle Level 2 Paper Packet, stamp set, and Dimensional Elements – Frames), Colonial White cardstock, Friendship Alphabet Large stamp set, Friendship Alphabet Small stamp set, Hodgepodge Alphabet stamp set, Tiny Typewriter Alphabet stamp set, Dimensional Elements Framed Fun, inks (Sorbet, Sweet Leaf, Crystal Blue), Tiny Tabs, silver brads, and Sweet Leaf Ribbon Rounds Collection.

These cards and pages were made using the Caboodle Workshop on the Go kit. These kits are so fun to do! You can chose to make the cards or the scrapbook layouts or both! To make both you may need to add additional cardstock. For this kit specifically, I added 4 sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 paper for my card bases. With the 4 extra sheets and by substituting some of the papers within the kit I was able to make 4 scrapbook pages and 12 cards using the workshop guide and I had paper left over! The kit is designed to make two 2-page layouts but made mine into four 1-page layouts. Check back later today for another post where I will show you what I have created with the rest of the Caboodle Paper Pack in the CTMH New Product Blog Hop!

Kindergarten Layout

I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. I know I sure did! I don’t have much time to scrap this week but I was able to get this layout done today. I used Liquid Glass to apply the fiber around the edges of the flower. For the center and the swirl I twisted two different fibers together and again applied with the Liquid Glass.

Products used: Rhonna Farrer paper, CTMH Just Bloom flowers, CTHM Sweet Leaf ink, CTMH Liquid Glass, Cricut Lyrical Letters cartridge, and fiber from my stash.

CTMH New Product Blog Hop – Fall/Winter 2009

Welcome to another Close to My Heart blog hop! I have been wanting to do a book like this for my daughter who is 10. This new album was just the push I needed to get it done! If you notice on the front cover one of the flower centers looks like it has a little something extra – that’s because it does. I really like these new spiral brads and just added a second spiral to give it more emphasis. I used liquid glass on all the numbers and letters. It really brightened the stamping. With doing so much at once I noticed two things: 1. I didn’t have one single bubble! and 2. that’s a lot of squeezing and my hand is really sore! I inked around all the edges when I was finished. It helps covers the flaws and really added a nice finishing touch. One thing I am going to go back and do is use my Made with Love stamp set to add a stamp to the back that will be perfect for this project.

Everyday Celebration and Perfect Day!

As promised, here is what I have done using the Everyday Celebration guide. I used the same cutting diagrams and instructions to make these cards but I changed it up by using different paper (Perfect Day) and a different stamp set (Life’s Creation). I used sorbet ribbon and chocolate brads as my embellishments.
