Dance Buddies Layout

Supplies used: SEI Glitzmas paper, CTMH cardstock, CTMH Playful Flourishes stamp set, Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge by CTMH, CTMH Black ink, KI Memories Flourish Borders, Kaiser Rhinestones, CTMH Color-Ready Hodge Podge Alphabet Stickers, Martha Stewart Carrara Marble Glitter, and Recollections Glitter Shapes.

These sparkly pictures needed a page with lots of sparkle. I think I added that. I ordered the SEI paper online and for some reason only got one sheet and when I went back they were sold out. It must have looked different on my computer screen because I love it in person and was wondering why I didn’t order 2 sheets. I stamped the Pacifica blue cardstock with stamps from Playful Flourishes (one of my all-time favorite sets). I used the new CTMH Ruler for lining up the rhinestones for an embellishment border. I pictured glittery white letters for my title and really thought I’d find some in my stash but no such luck. So I had to create my own. I used a Zig Glue Pen to apply adhesive to the alphabet stickers, then covered with glitter and let dry.

This was an easy layout because I used the example on the back of the My Stickease. I added Stickles to the flowers on the B&T paper and to accent the My Stickease.

First I just have to say that Glitter Glitz is one of my favorite products. Close to My Heart currently has four different colors available – Stardust, Bronze, Silver, and Red. It is so versatile and can be used to sparkle-up anything including stamped images, ribbon, flowers, buttons, and more. You can also use it for doodling or accents.

Now to my layout…it is made from the Sophia Workshop on the Go Kit and I made it my own by adding some Stardust Glitter Glitz. I love the fine-tipped applicator! It makes it so easy to control for making thin or thick lines. I added glitter to my stamped images, to the pattern paper, and along my scalloped border. I also put some around the edges of my flower. The middle of my flower is a pear-colored button. I added the Glitter Glitz to the middle and around the edge. Once that dried, I poked a tulip-colored brad through the button holes for extra detail.

CTMH Spotlight Blog Hop – My Stickease

Welcome to the December 2011 Close to My Heart Spotlight Blog Hop! This month we are featuring My Stickease (some currently on sale on my website). I just love these cardstock stickers by Close to My Heart. You can use them as is for a great looking layout that you can create in no time or you can add to them as I have done below.

My Stickease are a quick way to create a fabulous layout. To add some extra pizzazz to my layout I added antique brads to the flower centers, Glitter Glitz to border my title, and Liquid Glass to the “brads” in the lower right corner. This layout can be filed this under the “30 minutes or less” category! I used the 8 1/2 x 11 horizontal Dec. 2011 Page Map as inspiration.

CTMH Spotlight Blog Hop – Reinkers

Welcome to the October 2011 Close to My Heart Spotlight Blog Hop! This month we are using reinkers. If you are thinking to yourself “what else are reinkers for besides actually re-inking your stamp pads” then this is the hop for you! Supplies used are all Close to My Heart unless otherwise noted: Amethyst, Heavenly Blue, Sweet Leaf, and Baby Pink reinkers, Prisma Glitter, Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint, Spray Pen, White Daisy Grosgrain Ribbon, Paper Blooms Flowers (link is not exactly what I used but similar), White Daisy Cardstock. DCWV Alphabet Stickers, and Lavender Magic Mesh. Based on a June 2011 Page Maps sketch.

This closeup really shows all the glittery shine! Notice the Pearl Paint on the flowers, background paper, and title paper as well as the Prisma Glitter on the butterfly. Scroll down for full details.

I first used reinkers to create my background paper. I put the reinker on a paper plate and then dipped a crumpled up napkin into it and dabbed color onto my paper. Next, I mixed Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint and water in a spray pen and sprayed on the background to add a bit of glitz.

While this was drying, I used the Heavenly Blue reinker to dye some White Daisy Grosgrain Ribbon and Amethyst reinker to dye butterflies from the Just Blooms Paper Shapes Flutter Shapes. I also sprinkled the wet butterflies with some Prisma Glitter. The new tweezers worked great for dipping. This is the first time I have played with reinkers and one thing I have learned is that the color is darker than you would think when you use straight reinker for dying. Next time I will mix with water to get a lighter color. Another thing I learned…make sure things are completely dry before adding them to your layout. I didn’t realize my ribbon was still wet and over time the dye soaked into the surrounding paper. Luckily it’s not very noticeable because of the background I chose.

I used reinker to color my flowers. I used a waterbrush dipped in reinker to color the petals from the outside inward, then I sprayed them with the same paint/water mixture that I used for my background paper.

I mixed Baby Pink reinker with Create-a-Shade Paint and painted paper that I used for the base of my title.

Other ideas for reinkers are:

mix with Liquid Glass
mix with Liquid Applique
paint with the reinker using brushes
mix reinker and water in a spray pen
use in glass ornaments to color

Love Layout

This is my layout for the October Quote Challenge at Scrap Our Stash. I used a quote from a DCWV Quote Stack. I cut it into strips to add more detail. Because it was vellum, I used brads to attach it to my background. They match the Decorative Brad in the top right corner. For the LOVE title, I used the Oxford Color-Ready Alphabet stickers. I inked them in my first color and then stamped them with the flourish pattern, creating beautiful, original letters for my layout. Near the bottom of my page you will see a stamped border. To add more detail, I outlined some of the hearts with Liquid Glass, covered with Prisma Glitter, and let dry. I just love Prisma Glitter because it works over an color and it is so sparkly!

CTMH Technique Blog Hop – Multicolor Motifs

Supplies used are all Close to My Heart: Miracle Paper Pack, Baby Pink cardstock, Love Life Stamp set, Crystal Blue Marker, Baby Pink Ink, Crystal Blue Ink, Sparkles, Bitty Sparkles, Miracle Irresistibles, Cricut Art Philosophy Collection, and Glitter Glitz – Stardust. August 2011 Page Maps Sketch.

Exclusive Inks markers make it easy to selectively ink parts of a stamp with different hues. Just apply each ink color using the brush tip of the marker, then stamp on your project for multicolored images. This is such a great technique to add more options to your stamp collection.

TIP: Once you have finished coloring your stamp, “huff” on it before you stamp. This will moisten the ink if it has taken you some time to do the coloring.

It must be the lighting on the first photo because you can see the border of circles just fine in real life. Here is a closeup that shows it better:

I created the circle border with one stamp (that had the multiple circles). To save some time, I first inked the stamp in Baby Pink (my lighter color) then I added Crystal Blue to every other circle using my marker. I used this same technique with the flourish, inking it in pink first and then adding the blue with a marker before stamping. You could also create lighter and darker shades of the same color within a stamp by stamping off the color and then using the marker where you want darker spots before stamping your final image.

Another modification to this technique is to ink only the portion of the stamp that you want (instead of masking!). I did this for the words on my layout and used ink pads instead of markers. I inked the middle word with Baby Pink ink. Some of the pink got on the other words but I didn’t worry about that since it was a lighter color. Then I inked the outer words with the edge of my Crystal Blue ink pad, this time making sure I didn’t get any blue on the word Laugh.

Princess Layout

Challenge: Paper Cutz Challenge #106 – Wish Upon a Star

This is my layout for the Pagerize This Challenge # 13 on Scrap Our Stash. You’ve got until September 12 if you’d like to participate!

I started with Julie’s layout in general and went from there. I ended up with the three pictures on the bottom and liked that but I struggled as I worked on the top of the page. I had a crown that I kept playing with but it didn’t make the final cut. I finally came up with the glitter stars and LOVE how they turned out! The large star is actually multiple ones that are layered together. I added the Glitter Glitz and it dried as one piece on the top and I was able to create the one large star that I wanted! I’m so glad it turned out because I used almost my whole bottle! The lamp on my desk gets quite hot so I set it under there and left it for a couple hours to dry. That’s my best note as far as how long it took to dry. Another option would have been to use my heat gun. You may notice I also added small glitter dots to the background paper.

One thing I did with this layout was combined new product with my old stash to create something I like. I remember when this paper first came out, I thought it was so cute. Today I had a hard time making it into something I liked with the matching stickers. By adding the border (new product) and glitter I was able to create a page that I was happy with and still use up some of my old stash.

Below is a closeup of the stars because they are so pretty! The smaller one is just a cardstock diecut attached with 3D foam tape.

CTMH Spotlight Blog Hop – Circle Cards

This stamp set is great for making tags. I just grabbed my pile of scraps and stamped away! I used markers, watercolor pencils, and a blending pen with inks to color the images. To add some glitz and dimension I added sparkles to the Christmas tree, glitter to the snowmen, liquid glass to the Christmas lights, and bitty brads to the second snowman. These would also make a fun and simple craft for your kids or a group. The presents image works great for any occassion – Birthday, Christmas, or Baby!

March 2010 CTMH Product Spotlight Blog Hop Featuring Liquid Glass

Welcome to the March 2010 Close to My Heart Product Spotlight Blog Hop. This month we are featuring one of my favorite products – Liquid Glass! I feel this is a must-have for everyone and you will see why in this post and throughout the blog hop. This is a circle hop so if you started here just follow along until you make your way back to the blog you started on. Enjoy!

There are really limitless ways to use Liquid Glass. One of it’s great uses is to add dimension to paper or stamping. The bottle’s fine tip makes it very easy to trace lines. You can also fill in tags for an epoxy look similar to page pebbles. Now I would say the most common use for Liquid Glass is as an adhesive but I hear over and over from customers that they do not realize this. It works great to adhere buttons, metals, ribbon, chipboard, and other ‘hard to stick’ items. One of my favorite uses for it is to apply glitter! It is so easy now to turn some of my older (less loved) paper into something new and sparkly and lovable once again.

Here are some examples of my use of Liquid Glass:

This is a layout I made for a swap and I’ve now added the pictures, title, and journaling. I “dotted” Liquid Glass on the circle paper in the middle of a few of the snowflakes, then sprinkled with Prisma Glitter – bingo I’ve got my own bling paper! BTW, I just love that snowflake stamp!Products used are all CTMH: Creative Basics Jingle Collection, Color Ready Alphabet – Hodge Podge, Sparkles, White Daisy Cardstock, White Daisy Embossing Powder, Versamark ink, Liquid Glass, Prisma Glitter, White Daisy brads, and New Fallen Snow Stamp Set.

To make my title letters I used a Color Ready Alphabet. First I pulled off the outside leaving the letters on the backing. As I went I cut it off so I wasn’t working with a large piece towards the end.
Then I added the liquid glass to the letters I wanted to use and added the glitter. This is the first time that I’ve used this technique on letter stickers before adding them to my layout. What I learned was that but doing them this way (and being sloppy with the Liquid Glass) it also made the letters sloppy in a way – but it was perfect for this layout. You can see what I mean by looking at a closeup of the title (it is especially noticeable on the W). Where I went overboard (out of the lines so to speak) when I added the Liquid Glass – that part stayed with the letter once it was dried and I pulled it off the sheet. I really love the result but it was an accident. I probably couldn’t have made it work if I had been trying!

This next one is a Workshop on the Go layout. Notice how Liquid Glass was added to the dots on the polka dot paper for added dimension and a unique look.
Products used are all CTMH: Dimensional Elements in Color – Organic, Twitterpated Level 2 Paper Pack, Designer Ribbon Rounds Chocolate Collection, Natural Hemp, Brads Basic Assortment, Liquid Glass, Chocolate ink, Friendship Alphabet Large Stamp Set and Hello There Stamp Set.

In addition to the many ways to use Liquid Glass for scrapbooking and cards you can also use it around the house. I have used mine to repair my shower curtain, to fix toys and Christmas ornaments, and it works great to keep those feet pads on the bottom of my dining room chairs!

Preventing clogs: As with any adhesive in a bottle there is a chance that the tip can get clogged. First of all that is easy to fix by poking a pin down the bottle to clear it. Personally I find this step rather annoying so here are some things that you can do to prevent the clog in the first place. When you are finished using it, hold upright and let the glue settle to the bottom, then squeeze the bottle a couple times to make sure that air flows through the tip and it is clear of glue. Another option is to store the bottle upside down (an empty ribbon round container works perfect for this). I’ve used both of these methods and they both work well. I’ve heard you can also keep a push pin in the tip but that’s too messy for me.

One thing is certain – I just love this stuff! I encourage you to give it a try if you haven’t yet. It is an inexpensive, versatile product and a little goes a long way!

Additional tips:
* Drying time varies depending on how much you use.
* Do not shake the bottle! Shaking will cause bubbles.
* When applying try to keep a continual flow – avoid starting and stopping which also causes bubbles.
* You can tint your Liquid Glass by mixing with re-inker.
* Liquid Glass may alter the color of some of the CTMH inks so make sure you test your stamped image before applying it to your final project.
* Use Liquid Glass on the ends of your ribbon to prevent fraying.

I found this stamp set in my stash (twice!) so I thought it was a good starting point. I outlined the inside of the small hearts with a marker before adding the stickles. This seemed to change the color a bit for more contrast which turned out better. Since you can’t have too much glitter I added more to the top of the stickles. I had fun making this glittery card!

I started off using the Sunday sketch at 365 cards and this is what I ended up with. I wanted stitching around the edges but didn’t have the right thread. Then I started handstitching and that was just too much work! So I ended up with piercing around the border and snaps in the corners (to cover up where I started stitching. I was originally thinking to use pop dots on the flowers but the liquid glass added the dimension that I wanted.

Princess Card

This was such a fun card to make! I found the princess crown (by K&Company) on clearance at Walmart and I’ve been wanting to use it. It lights up! The frame is CTMH’s Flower Power Stickease (retired). I used my Liquid Glass (CTMH) to draw the swirls and add glitter (Martha Stewart carrara marble). Then I added the dark pink rhinestones (Kaisercraft) as a finishing touch. Now I just don’t know where this card will end up because it is perfect for a little girl I know but she JUST had a birthday. It might have to wait for next year to come around. Whatever happens I know the recipient will be a little girl and she will love it.

My mojo was working for me tonight! Unfortunately there was no natural light when I took the pictures but you get the idea.

Products used: K&Company chipboard, CTMH Heart of Winter Project Pack, CTMH organdy ribbon, K&Company pearls. I added details to the flower with markers and ink. (challenge=sketch)

Products used: DCWV textured cardstock and pattern paper, Stampin’ Up black grosgrain ribbon, CTMH Sparkles and Cranberry cardstock, button and flowers unknown. (challenge=red/black/white)

Products used: CTMH Boom-Di-Ada Creative Basics papers, flowers from CTMH Heart of Winter Project Pack, CTMH Hollyhock ricrac, acrylic frame by Fancy Pants, CTMH Say It In Style stamp set, and Hampton Art glitter glue. The acrylic frame is actually two pieces. I used the glitter glue to stick them together and then I attached it to my project with Liquid Glass. Glitter glue was also used for the center of the flowers. (challenge=clear window)

I am thrilled with how this card turned out. I made it for someone very special in my life. It’s been a long time since I’ve made a square card and now I think I’m going to be making more! It’s a nice change. Papers are CTMH Heart of Winter Project Paper Pack, chipboard and pearls are from K&Company. The chipboard was one piece that I cut to make two and I added a pearl to the flower. I cut the scallop square with my Accent Essentials Cricut cartridge.
