Decorated Coaster Set

I just love adding my own little touch to things. This is just a plain coaster set but I added rubons to give them some extra flair. It’s very simple to do to make change something from ordinary to extraordinary. These were a grandparent gift for Christmas with pictures of the new babies. I had to get a little creative to come up with an idea for the fourth coaster since there were only three babies. I like how it turned out as a complete set. Scrap supplies are DCWV vellum quote matted on cardstock, and misc. rubons from my stash.

Christmas Gift Bags

The girls and I made these cute little gift bags for teacher gifts this year. They were quick and easy to make the girls had fun helping. I think the paper is DCWV. All the embellishments are just misc. from my stash that I’m working to use up. I used the Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More Cricut cartridge. I cut the gift bag on p. 115 at 5 3/4 (the largest it would cut). It wouldn’t cut 2 on one sheet but you can trick it by cutting one, then reinserting the mat so the paper is switched around and cut it again. As long as you have 6″ of paper you are good.

CTMH Technique Blog Hop – Masking

Welcome to our Technique Blog Hop! This month there are 12 of us highlighting the Masking Technique as shown on page 15 in the 2011 Autumn/Winter Idea Book! Masking is when you use a piece of scrap paper to cover an image (or part of an image) so you can stamp around the original image. Supplies used are all Close to My Heart unless otherwise noted: Cricut Art Philosophy Collection, Lagoon ink, Sunkiss Yellow ink, Blush ink, rubber brayer, Baby Pink reinker, Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint, Ribbon Rounds – Blush Collection, White Daisy Cardstock, DCWV Alphabet Stickers, Studio18 Rhinestone Stickers, and Kaisercraft Rhinestones. Layout is loosely based on a March 2008 Page Map sketch.

I used the Cricut to cut an image for my masking. I used a brayer to apply ink over the mask to create my background. Then, I misted with a spray pen filled with water, Baby Pink reinker, and Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint to add to my final background. The accent flowers are scraps from the mask I used and they are inked with Sunkiss Yellow, Blush, and Lagoon.

Love Layout

This is my layout for the October Quote Challenge at Scrap Our Stash. I used a quote from a DCWV Quote Stack. I cut it into strips to add more detail. Because it was vellum, I used brads to attach it to my background. They match the Decorative Brad in the top right corner. For the LOVE title, I used the Oxford Color-Ready Alphabet stickers. I inked them in my first color and then stamped them with the flourish pattern, creating beautiful, original letters for my layout. Near the bottom of my page you will see a stamped border. To add more detail, I outlined some of the hearts with Liquid Glass, covered with Prisma Glitter, and let dry. I just love Prisma Glitter because it works over an color and it is so sparkly!

Another 10 Year Album

When I found out the theme for the August Scrap Our Stash Challenge was to “re-do” something I thought I was in trouble. I am not one to go back and redo any of my layouts. I’m just glad they got done in the first place! Plus, it’s interesting to see how my scrapping style has changed over the years. It’s also funny to hear compliments for some of the layouts that I don’t really care for; we all have different tastes. So back to the challenge….my second child turned 10 this year and this ended up to be the perfect opportunity to get something completed in a timely manner. For my first, I had created a 10-Years of You album that featured a photo of her each of her 10 years. So I decided to “redo” that same project for my second 10-year-old. Let me tell you it was much easier the second time around! I simply used the same album and layouts, choosing different papers and embellishments to suit a different personality. The only trouble I had was that I stamped all the numbers and did the album backwards and when it came to doing the title it did not match my front cover paper. Not a big deal to switch it up and I even used a number 3 in place of a the letter E. The cover paper did just happen to have a nice lace/ribbon border that looked great on the front cover. Here is the outcome:

Summer Swim Layout

Supplies used: DCWV The Glitter Stack papers, Recollections Glitter Adhesive Borders, PC Stand-Outs, Heidi Swapp rubons, Me & My Big Ideas chipboard stickers, and misc buttons and dew drops from my stash. I used a Sketch Inspiration Sketch.

The Monthly Challenge on Scrap Our Stash for April is “Bring in the Sun”. I don’t know why this was so hard for me but I am very happy with the outcome. First, I was stumped for what I was going to do. I looked through my stash and didn’t have “sun” anything. Then I found swim pictures and thought I would focus on the color yellow (one that doesn’t make it into many of my layouts). Then, I added my own little mini challenge to not use pink. In the end, I love the layout. I think because it is so different and that will make a nice addition to my books. Go over to Scrap Our Stash and join the challenge!

Teddy Bears in Bed

Layout Challenge: #118 of 210.

These are a fun food for the kids to make. The are made by simply assembling graham crackers, large marshmellows (cut in half), teddy graham bears, and fruit rollups. As far s the layout, the pinwheels are cut out of the patterned paper. I often do this to create my own coordinating embellishments by cutting sections out and adding a few extra touches. With the pinwheels I added brads to the centers. If I had to do over again I would make the rhinestones around the large pinwheel straight down instead of trying to make it curved. I used Sketch #19 from Scrap-A-Little.

My Christmas project is an advent calendar. I have wanted to do one for forever, found one on sale, and I’m finally getting around to it. Now is the perfect time because it is done in plenty of time to use it this year.

Supplies: Karen Foster Countdown Calendar, DCWV Christmas Stack paper, DCWV Nana’s Kid’s paper, and DCWV numbers from a sticker stack.

My original plan for this was to use all 4 sides of the drawers to create 4 different themes. I was a bit disappointed that that idea didn’t work. This particular box was far from the best quality. The drawers were too tight for me to try to add paper to the sides and I didn’t dare use Mod Podge, which I like to use for all my altered projects. The notches on the drawers were also not even which was quite annoying. Originally, I was planning to create a template and use it to trace all of the drawer fronts. Good thing I realized this early because they would not have all lined up. Instead, I had to trace each drawer (and on the side I would be using) on my paper and glue them on right away. It worked out in the end but took a bit longer than it should have. I was also stumped on embellishing. This is very plain for me but I just don’t know what I can add because the drawers need to slide in/out so it has to all be flat. The only thing I have come up with is maybe a red ribbon all the way around the outside of the box with a bow on the top; this would match both sets of papers. Please share any ideas you might have. I’d love to hear more suggestions. It was the kid’s idea that I decorate the opposite side of the box to countdown to birthdays. At first they wanted baby because I am expecting and I thought I’d do pastels that could double as Easter but when I was limited to 2 sides instead of 4 they chose birthdays and that will work for the baby too.
