Dance Buddies Layout

Supplies used: SEI Glitzmas paper, CTMH cardstock, CTMH Playful Flourishes stamp set, Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge by CTMH, CTMH Black ink, KI Memories Flourish Borders, Kaiser Rhinestones, CTMH Color-Ready Hodge Podge Alphabet Stickers, Martha Stewart Carrara Marble Glitter, and Recollections Glitter Shapes.

These sparkly pictures needed a page with lots of sparkle. I think I added that. I ordered the SEI paper online and for some reason only got one sheet and when I went back they were sold out. It must have looked different on my computer screen because I love it in person and was wondering why I didn’t order 2 sheets. I stamped the Pacifica blue cardstock with stamps from Playful Flourishes (one of my all-time favorite sets). I used the new CTMH Ruler for lining up the rhinestones for an embellishment border. I pictured glittery white letters for my title and really thought I’d find some in my stash but no such luck. So I had to create my own. I used a Zig Glue Pen to apply adhesive to the alphabet stickers, then covered with glitter and let dry.

Sharing from the Heart Blog Hop – January 2012

The Sharing from the Heart Blog Hop is a mixture of Close to My Heart consultants and customers who have come together to share their projects. Supplies used are all CTMH: Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge, My Creations Banner, Sweetheart Paper Pack, Silver Brads, Mad About You stamp set (December SOTM), Bling Assortment Buttons, Black Waxy Flax, 3D foam tape, Crochet Flowers, and Cotton Candy, Black, & Tulip inks.

This paper was on clearance for only $3 for the pack. It was one of my favorites so I just had to get another one. When we had Valentines as an option for this blog hop it arrived at the perfect time. At first I was going to make a card, then I thought maybe a layout, then I remembered that I wanted banners for holidays throughout the year. There is plenty of paper in a paper pack so I decided to go for it and the great thing is I would have it done for the upcoming holiday!

I cut the scalloped pennants using the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge at 7″. I cut cardstock for the base on the ones that I used B&T paper on. I also mounted all the pieces on the My Creations chipboard Banner. One thing I noticed when I used the inside and out of the banners and I flipped some over to use the different patterns on the paper…the inside piece did not match up if I flipped it over. You’d think that with this pattern it wouldn’t matter but it must be off a little, just enough to not line up. On those pieces I added embellishments to cover up the space. Next time I make one, if I use this same pattern, I will use the cardstock as my base again and just use one piece of B&T paper so I don’t have to worry about it matching up exact. Letters are also cut with the Art Philosophy cartridge at 2″.

Christmas Gift Bags

The girls and I made these cute little gift bags for teacher gifts this year. They were quick and easy to make the girls had fun helping. I think the paper is DCWV. All the embellishments are just misc. from my stash that I’m working to use up. I used the Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More Cricut cartridge. I cut the gift bag on p. 115 at 5 3/4 (the largest it would cut). It wouldn’t cut 2 on one sheet but you can trick it by cutting one, then reinserting the mat so the paper is switched around and cut it again. As long as you have 6″ of paper you are good.

For the bonus project below, I didn’t want all the journaling so I used extra cardstock to make photo mats for each page. You can see the brads that I used…I would recommend using the bare minimum for embellishments and keeping them flat. These worked in the small amounts that I used but if I did it over again I would leave them off. Also, I would complete all the pages before adhering them in the book. And use Mod Podge or another strong adhesive. I used my ATG gun and it is not holding the binding after the book has been used (open and closing). I have to say it’s the first thing that my ATG adhesive hasn’t held.

CTMH Technique Blog Hop – Masking

Masking is when you use a piece of scrap paper to cover an image (or part of an image) so you can stamp around the original image. Supplies used are all Close to My Heart unless otherwise noted: Cricut Art Philosophy Collection, Lagoon ink, Sunkiss Yellow ink, Blush ink, rubber brayer, Baby Pink reinker, Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint, Ribbon Rounds – Blush Collection, White Daisy Cardstock, DCWV Alphabet Stickers, Studio18 Rhinestone Stickers, and Kaisercraft Rhinestones. Layout is loosely based on a March 2008 Page Map sketch.

I used the Cricut to cut an image for my masking. I used a brayer to apply ink over the mask to create my background. Then, I misted with a spray pen filled with water, Baby Pink reinker, and Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint to add to my final background. The accent flowers are scraps from the mask I used and they are inked with Sunkiss Yellow, Blush, and Lagoon.

CTMH Technique Blog Hop – Multicolor Motifs

Welcome to our Technique Blog Hop! This month there are 13 of us highlighting Multicolor Motifs as shown on page 110 in the 2011 Autumn/Winter Idea Book! This technique is when you use your markers to apply different colors to the same stamp for a multicolored image.

Supplies used are all Close to My Heart: Miracle Paper Pack, Baby Pink cardstock, Love Life Stamp set, Crystal Blue Marker, Baby Pink Ink, Crystal Blue Ink, Sparkles, Bitty Sparkles, Miracle Irresistibles, Cricut Art Philosophy Collection, and Glitter Glitz – Stardust. August 2011 Page Maps Sketch.

Exclusive Inks markers make it easy to selectively ink parts of a stamp with different hues. Just apply each ink color using the brush tip of the marker, then stamp on your project for multicolored images. This is such a great technique to add more options to your stamp collection.

TIP: Once you have finished coloring your stamp, “huff” on it before you stamp. This will moisten the ink if it has taken you some time to do the coloring.

It must be the lighting on the first photo because you can see the border of circles just fine in real life. Here is a closeup that shows it better:

I created the circle border with one stamp (that had the multiple circles). To save some time, I first inked the stamp in Baby Pink (my lighter color) then I added Crystal Blue to every other circle using my marker. I used this same technique with the flourish, inking it in pink first and then adding the blue with a marker before stamping. You could also create lighter and darker shades of the same color within a stamp by stamping off the color and then using the marker where you want darker spots before stamping your final image.

Another modification to this technique is to ink only the portion of the stamp that you want (instead of masking!). I did this for the words on my layout and used ink pads instead of markers. I inked the middle word with Baby Pink ink. Some of the pink got on the other words but I didn’t worry about that since it was a lighter color. Then I inked the outer words with the edge of my Crystal Blue ink pad, this time making sure I didn’t get any blue on the word Laugh.

Sharing from the Heart Blog Hop – September 2011

This month’s theme choices were: Limited Edition SOTM, fall, or color combo (Ponderosa Pine, Pansy Purple, Parchment, Smoothie, Grey Flannel – use at least 3).

Although I didn’t use the combo colors I was somewhat inspired by them. The Vanilla Cream I used for my layout is close to Parchment and it is a color that I rarely use. I just had in my head to use these photo booth pictures with the words from the stamp of the month set. My cousin had a photo booth at her wedding reception and the kids (especially Stephanie as you can see) had a blast! I had absolutely no idea how I was going to make all these photo strips fit on one layout (okay, I’ll admit I did put a couple away for a page in my book). Something else about this layout is that I only used a tiny bit of patterned paper, very rare for me! But the pictures are busy enough.

Wonderful You Layout

The September 2011 Challenge at Scrap Our Stash is GRIDS. At first I was stumped but then remembered that I have been wanting to do some weaving and I came upon a sketch that got my mojo going. This layout is loosely based on this Scrapbook Generation sketch. I changed up the photos and turned it into a one-page layout.

I created my grid by simply weaving paper together. I cheated and used the Sunset as my base, cutting it part of the way across and leaving together on one end. I didn’t even measure because I knew the odd cuts would be hidden under my photo. After loosely weaving in the white stripes, I lined them up with the outer edge and worked towards the inside.

Mayberry Workshop Layouts

These are the layouts from the Mayberry Workshop on the Go Kit. The top layout has become one of my favorites! The scalloped frame is cut using the new Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. I cheated and cut it to the height I needed, then cut it (lined up with a scallop) to make it shorter to fit better around my photo. Since it’s a solid color you can’t tell at all that I pieced it back together (just overlapped and glued down).

Fanfare Workshop Projects

I really enjoyed using the Fanfare papers from Close to My Heart. Maybe it was because they were different for me in the fact that there’s no pink, ha! Funny thing is both girls wanted their pictures on these pages (they liked the blue). With the red/white/blue theme they were perfect for the July Challenge at Scrap Our Stash. The first thing I thought of when I saw these papers was Fourth of July but I didn’t use any of those types of pictures. These are really great, versatile papers!

Here are the layouts that I created with the Fanfare Workshop Kit:

By switching out papers for the above layouts, I saved the papers below because I thought they’d make really quick and easy layouts. As you can see I basically just matted my photo and added a few embellishments:

Baby Calendar

Layout Challenge: #160-184 of 210

I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun this was to make. It was something that I wanted to do but didn’t think I could realistically get it finished before the baby arrived. Thanks to the quick pages I chose I was able to finish it and I just love how it turned out. On the pre-designed pages, before adhering to the calendar, I used an exacto knife to trim around any extras that covered a photo mat – so that when I add pictures throughout the year I can slide my picture underneath and it will look better (like the fruit on the July page – I cut around where it overlapped the photo mat). Originally, I was going to stamp the months but after already adhering the pages (with embellishments) I no longer had a flat surface to stamp so I opted to use my Cricut instead. I plan to hang it in the nursery and have the older siblings help keep it updated with “baby’s firsts” information and photos. I am going to keep the calendar as is for a keepsake, but if I did this as a yearly thing with day-to-day activities, I would take the pages and put them in my scrapbook albums as finished pages at the end of the year.
