December 2012 CTMH Use Your Stash Blog Hop – Around the House

WELCOME!  I’m so glad you are joining us for our “Use Your Stash Blog Hop”.  If you have already started, you should be coming from Michelle West’s Blog.  If this is your first stop, continue through until you make your way back here.  This month you will see things that we have created that are around our house OR creating things with what you find around the house.

I didn’t really have a use for another advent calendar so I decided to change this kit up and create decorated storage for my daughters’s room which can be used for jewelry, marbles, knickknacks, and any other small items.  (This will also keep them up and away from their little sister.)  The girls picked the colors they wanted and I went from there.  Here is what I ended up with:

Advent Calendar to Jewelry Box by Wendy KesslerSupplies used are all Close to My Heart: Advent Calendar Kit, Artiste Cricut Collection, Circle Together stamp set, inks/cardstock (Lagoon, Chocolate, Honey, Pear, and Cotton Candy), and Glitter Glitz Gels (Bronze, Pink, Green, and Stardust).

I was thrilled at how well the Circle Together stamp set worked with the border stamps from the Advent Calendar Workshop stamp set.  I wasn’t planning on doing so much stamping (more embellishments) but I had fun with it and like it this way.  Such a great part of using up my stash is mixing the old with the new and using staple supplies as I have done here.  I just love the Glitter Glitz Gels!  They can be used in so many ways and are very inexpensive.  I use them all the time!

I am thinking of adding the Dark Chocolate Striped Grosgrain Ribbon around the box and somehow roll in at the top and end in a bow….I have it pictured in my head just wasn’t able to get to it in time for the hop.

To cut the boxes, I used a file that Lalia created which cuts 2 boxes and a card base on one 12×12 sheet of cardstock.  Follow this link to download the file.  Thanks Lalia!

You can purchase the Advent Calendar Kit or if you want to do something like I did you can purchase the My Creations Cubby separately.  The Artiste Cricut cartridge is used to cut the boxes.

Stamp Sunday #49: Ornamental Cheer

D1520 Ornamental Cheer

Ornaments by Wendy Kessler

Ornaments by Wendy Kessler

Supplies used are all Close to My Heart unless otherwise noted: Ornamental Cheer stamp set, Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge, Olive ink, Cranberry ink, and unknown beaded string.

I had the idea for these ornaments for quite some time.  They turned out to be quite simple to make and I am pleased with the final result.  Each ornament is made from 6 diecut pieces.  It worked best to score them before folding.  Because of the size/shape of the ornaments, I was able to cut twice as many on one 12×12 sheet by using Cricut Craft Room.  I created the ornaments with the 3 hanging pieces first, then made the simpler single ornaments to hang from another light.

December 2012 Technique Blog Hop – Stitching

Welcome to our Technique Blog Hop!  This month we are highlighting the Stitching Technique as shown on page 28 in the Autumn/Winter 2012 Idea Book.

This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork incorporating this technique.  So if you are starting here, just continue until you make your way back.  If you have already started, you should be coming from Judy Faye Garner’s Blog.

Simple Birthday card by Wendy Kessler

Supplies used are all Close to My Heart: Stitched Together stamp set, Happy Birthday stamp set, and Lagoon ink.

At first I felt bad for posting such a simple card.  Then I realized that sometimes (especially this time of year!) we are extra busy and need something quick and easy.  So that’s what this card is…simple, one dimension (easy to mail), and will work for anyone.  These stamp sets are both retired oldies but goodies.  You can change up this card with any border stamp, sentiment, or ink color!

Thanks for stopping by!  Please continue onto Kindred Hearts where you will find some additional artwork highlighting this technique!  Be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you thought of my variation and happy hopping!

In celebration of National Crafting month, Close to My Heart has another great special which includes the above stamp set.  As in the past, consultants have joined forces to share with you many projects that can be created with this exclusive stamp set.  This should give you more ideas and expand this super value!

The hop is a circle so you can start anywhere.  If you are coming from Krista’s Blog then you are on the right path.

Father's Day Card by Wendy KesslerI wasn’t a big fan of this stamp set when I first saw it but now that I’ve used it I can see it’s possibility.  This is a Father’s Day card with each of the small owls representing one of the kids in their favorite color.

November 2012 CTMH Use Your Stash Blog Hop – All Scraps

WELCOME!  I’m so glad you are joining us for our “Use Your Stash Blog Hop”.  If you have already started, you should be coming from Joy’s Blog.  If this is your first stop, continue through until you make your way back here.  This month we are focusing on our scraps.  This is one of my favorite challenges because I love using things up.

Supplies used: Die Cuts with a View paper, Close to My Heart ribbons, Close to My Heart Just Blooms Flutter Paper Shapes, American Crafts Thickers, and Close to My Heart Opaque Mocha Adhesive Gems.

When I first think of “use up scraps” I think of paper.  But for this hop I decided to do something different and use up some embellishments, specifically scraps of ribbon.  I really like using paper like this that already has a pattern on it.  It makes for a quick and easy layout.  I also like adding embellishments to the base like the pearls I added to the flower centers along the bottom.

I used the sketch below from The Scrapbook Room.  This would also work great to use up scraps of paper.

Now hop on over to Judy’s Blog for more ideas on using up your stash.
