Flower Bouquet using the Cricut

I was planning on showing you some more artwork using Stella today but I was busy making this instead. It is a gift for my husband’s grandma who is recovering from surgery. Shhh! I haven’t delivered it yet! I found the vase and pebbles at the Dollar Tree. I used pearl-tipped pins from Michael’s and attached the flowers to a foam ball that sets on top of the vase. I did go through more than one roll of glue dots (used to hold the flowers together). I’d say if you don’t count the time it involves it’s equal to a vase of real flowers except this will last forever. And it was more fun too.

The flowers are cut using the CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. I love the variety and am so glad I tried them all out. This is a sample of 5 out of the 6 flowers you can cut from this cartridge. I have one of those new (non-sticky) Cricut mats and the 6th flower just wasn’t cutting well. I’m guessing the ball is about 4″, the vase is about 6″ tall, and I cut all the flowers at 3 inches. There’s 60-70 flowers total. I’ve got some left over and I’m thinking of making a card to go with it. Maybe that can be tomorrow’s project.

Do your kids ever complain that they are bored and have nothing to do? Well, we made this Bored Box to solve that problem. It is filled with things that we came up with that they can do when they are bored. They just pull one out of the box and they’ve got something to do. We came up with a variety of things including look at scrapbooks, read a book, watch a movie, play outside, draw a picture, play piano, fix your hair, put a puzzle together, paint your nails, etc. I have two preteen girls so this is what works for them. You can customize it to suit your children’s ages and what they are interested in. This is originally designed to be a bucket list box but you can really make it into whatever you want (photo box, learning tool, etc.).

Supplies used are all CTMH: Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge, My Creations Banner, Sweetheart Paper Pack, Silver Brads, Mad About You stamp set (December SOTM), Bling Assortment Buttons, Black Waxy Flax, 3D foam tape, Crochet Flowers, and Cotton Candy, Black, & Tulip inks.

This paper was on clearance for only $3 for the pack. It was one of my favorites so I just had to get another one. When we had Valentines as an option for this blog hop it arrived at the perfect time. At first I was going to make a card, then I thought maybe a layout, then I remembered that I wanted banners for holidays throughout the year. There is plenty of paper in a paper pack so I decided to go for it and the great thing is I would have it done for the upcoming holiday!

I cut the scalloped pennants using the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge at 7″. I cut cardstock for the base on the ones that I used B&T paper on. I also mounted all the pieces on the My Creations chipboard Banner. One thing I noticed when I used the inside and out of the banners and I flipped some over to use the different patterns on the paper…the inside piece did not match up if I flipped it over. You’d think that with this pattern it wouldn’t matter but it must be off a little, just enough to not line up. On those pieces I added embellishments to cover up the space. Next time I make one, if I use this same pattern, I will use the cardstock as my base again and just use one piece of B&T paper so I don’t have to worry about it matching up exact. Letters are also cut with the Art Philosophy cartridge at 2″.

Girl’s Altered Journal

This was the journal that I was talking about a couple days ago. It was a gift for my 5th grade daughter’s last minute gift exchange for a girl. This was the easiest one I’ve made yet because of the paper my daughter picked out for it. The back is a solid of the pink paper. I didn’t plan to add the tab but the paper was hanging over a bit so in my attempt to fix it I made a bigger problem when I cut the notebook. The tab was my solution and I thought she could put her name on it. We made due with what we had for this gift, filling a bag with this journal, the decorated paint can that I posted a couple days ago, and some lip gloss. I wasn’t sure about it but it was what we had. Stephanie came home and said the girl that got it loved it so I guess it was okay!

Decorated Coaster Set

I just love adding my own little touch to things. This is just a plain coaster set but I added rubons to give them some extra flair. It’s very simple to do to make change something from ordinary to extraordinary. These were a grandparent gift for Christmas with pictures of the new babies. I had to get a little creative to come up with an idea for the fourth coaster since there were only three babies. I like how it turned out as a complete set. Scrap supplies are DCWV vellum quote matted on cardstock, and misc. rubons from my stash.

Decorated Mini Paint Cans – Great Gifts

I got these mini paint cans at the Target Dollar Spot and knew I would have a use for them. The top one was used for a teacher’s gift. The second can was part of a gift exchange for my daughter’s 5th grade girl gift. We also made a journal which I will post in a couple days. These are Christmas, but you can decorate them for any occasion. All supplies are from my stash and I used the CTMH Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge for my diecuts. I also added a tag with ribbon to the handle of the can.

Christmas Gift Bags

The girls and I made these cute little gift bags for teacher gifts this year. They were quick and easy to make the girls had fun helping. I think the paper is DCWV. All the embellishments are just misc. from my stash that I’m working to use up. I used the Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More Cricut cartridge. I cut the gift bag on p. 115 at 5 3/4 (the largest it would cut). It wouldn’t cut 2 on one sheet but you can trick it by cutting one, then reinserting the mat so the paper is switched around and cut it again. As long as you have 6″ of paper you are good.

For the bonus project below, I didn’t want all the journaling so I used extra cardstock to make photo mats for each page. You can see the brads that I used…I would recommend using the bare minimum for embellishments and keeping them flat. These worked in the small amounts that I used but if I did it over again I would leave them off. Also, I would complete all the pages before adhering them in the book. And use Mod Podge or another strong adhesive. I used my ATG gun and it is not holding the binding after the book has been used (open and closing). I have to say it’s the first thing that my ATG adhesive hasn’t held.

When I saw these fun blocks, I knew I wanted to make a set for my one-year-old. It was just a matter of coming up with different things to put on it. You can see from the pictures what I chose. Other options would be….picture of baby and family/friends/pets….since there are (9×6) 54 sides you could use 26 for the letters of the alphabet, 0-9 for numbers, 9 for shapes, and 9 of anything else of your choice. I am looking forward to doing another one of these with photos!

I started off by first sponging the all the cubes and the tray with Pacifica ink (yes, a very messy job!). When I used the Mod Podge on the inked surface the color came off onto my brush. I tried putting a coat of Mod Podge over everything before moving on. It helped, but not completely. I would recommend not using ink to sponge your blocks. If I had it to do over again I would have left them white or used acrylic paint. So, lesson learned and passed on to you. Doing it over again, I also would not stamp all the images. I like to Mod Podge overtop of projects like this and some of the ink smeared because I used dye-based inks. You can see this on the turtle and the mittens. So….I’d recommend using pigment inks or I’d use stickers or diecuts.

Decorating these cubes made me want to pull out a bunch of others that I have sitting around that I haven’t gotten to working with yet. Now that I’ve learned some things the next set should be easier. I’m going to put more of these on my to-do list for the new year.

I chose to show you a Christmas gift idea. These My Creations 6×6 albums are among my favorites! They are inexpensive, you can use scraps and supplies that you already have, and they can be customized for anyone. The one I made here is for a grandparent for Christmas. The masculine look would also be perfect for a Father’s Day gift for Dad to take for his desk at work.

Throughout this hop, each participate has used new Fall/Winter Close to My Heart products, a school themed project, or the August Stamp of the Month – Wicked. I used all three of these by creating these two altered journals. I made one for each of my girls for school. For the second journal I used the flourishes on the witches hat to make a border.

Another 10 Year Album

When I found out the theme for the August Scrap Our Stash Challenge was to “re-do” something I thought I was in trouble. I am not one to go back and redo any of my layouts. I’m just glad they got done in the first place! Plus, it’s interesting to see how my scrapping style has changed over the years. It’s also funny to hear compliments for some of the layouts that I don’t really care for; we all have different tastes. So back to the challenge….my second child turned 10 this year and this ended up to be the perfect opportunity to get something completed in a timely manner. For my first, I had created a 10-Years of You album that featured a photo of her each of her 10 years. So I decided to “redo” that same project for my second 10-year-old. Let me tell you it was much easier the second time around! I simply used the same album and layouts, choosing different papers and embellishments to suit a different personality. The only trouble I had was that I stamped all the numbers and did the album backwards and when it came to doing the title it did not match my front cover paper. Not a big deal to switch it up and I even used a number 3 in place of a the letter E. The cover paper did just happen to have a nice lace/ribbon border that looked great on the front cover. Here is the outcome:

The May Challenge at Scrap Our Stash is FLOWERS! Honestly, I have more flowers in my stash than I know what to do with. Lucky for me I have 3 girls! I use flowers on so many of my pages that this challenge should have been a breeze. So why was I so stumped? Because I didn’t want to do just anything, I wanted it to be something different. We bought $1 flip flops the other day at Michael’s (yeah, we’ll see how long they last!) and Christine wanted to decorate hers. So what did we add but flowers of course! So here they are:
